A review of the Autobiography of God Almighty by Jim Overbeck

Jim Overbeck has attracted hordes of atheist detractors and opponents, some of whose venomous reviews appear on this page, as they impotently seek to hound him. They will not have read this book; I have.

If you are at all interested in Patristic Theology, especially the Origenist or Alexandrian tradition, or the development of German philosophy from Meister Eckhardt through to Heidegger, or the foundations of mathematics and logic, there will be something to arrest you in this remarkable book, which represents just a fraction of Jim’s thought.

It is not always an easy read, and sections require a considerable education as it is extremely learned, but I doubt if a more radical work will appear this century. Among other things, Overbeck seeks to explicate the implications of Athanasius’ famous formula, quoted on the title page, that God became Man so that Man could become God. In places, Overbeck attempts to write as if he is God, viewing the madness in which human beings have become enmeshed.

This is a book for the few who have the spirit to engage with it; please ignore the ignorant mewlings of his atheist enemies.
