Sue Overbeck’s Story

I was brought up in a traditional Christian family. My parents were Anglicans and I went to church and Sunday school where I prepared for my confirmation. I remember feeling disappointed at the ceremony because I hoped for an experience of the Holy Spirit that I didn’t feel at that moment.

Later as an art student in London during the psychedelic 1960s I met my husband Jim and together we had a journey of spiritual discovery. The experience of the Holy Spirit I had hoped for as a child became a reality. In visions I experienced paradise as a garden, and I saw the great mystery of the birth of the gods. Made from immortality and burnished with powers and virtues beyond my imagination.

The events in Banbury with Jim were so formative for both of us. We were together when the Lord ‘stepped onto him’ as Jim describes it. I had a vision of the suffering of Christ and then I saw the risen Lord appear on Jim.  It was these immense and powerful revelations of the divine that led us to identify as Christians and gave a new direction for Jim’s intellect. He became a theologian empowered by glorious theosis.
